March 30th, 2018: Freight Farms Open House

We opened up our new office to Prospective farmers

We started the day with a delicious breakfast with fresh coffee and pastries. Our guests–all potential customers– were able to finally meet face-to-face with the Business Development reps they spend so much time on phone with!

Next, we split the guests into three groups, each of which would be able to participate in three rotating informational sessions: a general Freight Farms session, an introductory hydroponics session, and (what everyone was most excited for!) a tour of our hydroponic container farm.

Open house guests wait excitedly to enter the container farm (the Leafy Green Machine™). Each 320 sq. ft. farm can comfortably fit 10 people at a time.

Inside the farm, Andrew (Key Accounts Manager) led the in-farm session where he showed participants how to operate the Leafy Green Machine. Guests were able to see the hydroponic technology for themselves and ask Andrew any questions that came to mind.

Andrew shows guests how lightweight the crop columns are! There are 256 in total, each capable of fitting 10-20 plants.

Back at the office, guests were able to talk to Jaime (Crop Specialist) and get an introduction to hydroponics. She explained how plants are able to grow successfully in our system, which is so different from traditional farming. Jaime was available to answer all kinds of questions about nutrients, pest control, and proper operating techniques!

Jaime answers a question from an open house participant. She has some live seedlings on the table that were used during the session to demonstrate how to successfully transplant seedlings into the crop columns.

We also provided some extra break-out sessions for participants looking to get more in-depth. One of these sessions was a business and brand building presentation. We looked at successful existing Freight Farmers and the types of customer and branding decisions they made! Again, we encouraged participants to ask questions related to the business they envision for themselves and the Leafy Green Machine.

Finally, participants were able to meet Client Services, our "team behind the machine"! Andrew and Dave talked about how Client Services guides farmers through the entire after-purchase process to make sure they're never alone!
